I am hopeing to get up to Vermont to pick it up, its a gift from my Uncle. It is a F-1(maybe) with a flathead 8 and a dump body. I already know it needs a full set of breaks. How hard will it be to find parts for a truck like this.
Hi, You have lots of good places back East to get old Ford Truck mechanical parts like brakes.Dont have all the info, but one is Mac's antique auto parts, other one is Joblot Automotive,in Queens NY,but my favorite is Bob Selzam in Toms River NJ.He calls his business Half Ton Fun,but has LOTS of parts for the bigger trucks also.Just got my brake parts from him yesterday.Everything comes in old tattered boxes, but on close inspection, the wheel cyls were exactly as new inside.I also got a set of nos front leaf springs. The reason I like his stuff is that it is primarily New Old Stock, usually of Ford manufacture.I think that on a lot of the aftermarket parts for the restoration hobby, things are not up to specs,as they dont figure that anyone is gonna use these things the way some of us do..... Bob's # is732 928 9421 daytime only. NAPA lists my wheel cyls for 75.00, Bob was 42.00 and these are for a 1 1/2 ton. GB
Thats a big help knowing there are local places I can go. I was a little afraid i would be taking 100 mile trips for parts.
Now the big trick is to get it from Vermont to New York. Im gonna probably have to take it down the mountain in front of my '00 150 cuz of the brake situation. I am in need of a place here where I can get a trailer strong enough to pull it home.
I have already checked with Ryder and they claim that their trailers are only designed for cars, i would do it but am worried that an old truck like this will easily overload their trailer. I would prefur the full trailer b/c i dont know how well the old truck will hold up to such a long trip on the rear wheels.
I am a bit confused...You say it is an F1 yet it has a dump bed. This may be so, but an F1 will not overload anyones car trailer. If you are mistaken and it is a 1 1/2 ton (or larger than an F3),it may overload it technically. If it is a BIG truck, then I might be more worried about your F150 tow vehicle, most importantly, the presence of trailer brakes...GB
That make is a lot of help. To be honest I am not shure if my Uncle knows what it is. He claims it to be an F1 with a dump bed, is it original(porbably not). But all of this will have to be figured out when i get up there to check it out. Hopefully its intact enough to make the journey.
