Lightbulb Engine damage at high speeds!

I have recently been trying to get my m.p.g , much higher by driving between 55-60 mph. I typically have driven around 70-75 mph in the past. My van is well maintained, but I was wondering if there is any detrimental effects that can occur from driving at higher speeds, instead of driving at 55-60. I do understand that the benefits of driving slower can be, improved mileage etc. , but I have talked to many different people, including "experts" who say driving at higher speeds, especially freeway driving, is better for your vehicle. Keep in mind that some of those people might be European mechanics, and heavy coffee drinkers!

Thanks for the feedback!

p.s. i use only pure synthetic motor oil
