Google has issues... Google only lists sites that PAY to be put in their database. AltaVista on the other hand "crawls" over webpages when it searches, and then sets the order.
I've mostly used Yahoo, but it seems that the average age of their users is about 12, considering their top 10 searches. I thought I was the only one that knew about Dogpile; it's great for reverse searches and finding really obscure stuff, otherwise it's TOO much info. I find myself on Google more and more, especially since I signed up my website over there. It's fascinating how they determine where the ads and sponsors pop up in relation to your search. Amazing stuff.
I use google, and if I cant find what I want then I go to Dogpile.com both seem to work well, just sometimes take a bit of creative wording to get exactly what you are looking for.

I am curious pfogle. How do you know this about google and where can I find information about this to read.
I have done indepentent tests.. Do this (my uncle uses it all the time to prove the point). There is an Ultima Online (MMORPG) Guild named left hand of light. Search google for it, then altavista... Google WILL NOT find it. Alta Vista Will.
pfogle, it is common knowledge in the industry that google searches based on words actually in webpages. for instance, if you put "i have done my uncle" all random words from your last post, google will bring it up . . even if its one pag 97 of 283. its based on actual words in webpages. some websites can opt out or block google from searching them by not having meta tags which could be why that sigh you mentioned isnt found. meta tags are like luggage tags for websites. you put the words "ford, trucks, FTE and forum" in a meta tag file and upload it to your website and google and maybe metacrawler searches for therefore finding the words in your meta tag and finding the website. altavista might do what you are talking about though. and thats why its on there because for google not to have that site on there, its not properly set up with its meta tags and files.
I actually need to clear up how altavista goes about searching.... The use meta tags as well.... They also search the TITLE, and actuall body of the site for the keyword(s).... I have noticed I get more relevant hits from the other search engines as well.

I have a web site that I have never advertised, and certainly never paid to advertise. It is for my son's youth wrestling program. I could search google within two weeks of when I had it up and running and it googled.
