Would it be a hard job to install true dual exhaust on my 97 f150 xtend cab 4x4?It has a 4.6 triton backed by a 5 speed standard, after doing some looking I see that ford uses seperate pipes a converters off each manifold. That's a good starting point,so who has done this mod and what are the gains?I really need some pointers---thanks
this is a hard job due to the fuel tank takes up the whole drivers side leaving VERY little room for mufflers. you can put duals on anything. autozone carries exhaust tubing. just run both pipes down the passenger side and up and over the rear end. flowmaster's cat back has all the pipes you'd need from just before the rear end all the way to chrome tips. that's what i used.
I asked around a lot before getting exhaust on my truck (99 with 4.6). Everyone that I went to basically said that the true duals were a waist of money on these trucks for some reason. They all recommended a 40-series single in/dual out flowmaster. I went with it and cut two of the cats off and I am constantly getting compliments on it
Does the flowmaster 40 series offer much of a increase in performance over the stock muffler or just make it louder?I'd just like a little performance boost, not into alot of noise.Does all flowmaster mufflers have a single in 2 out design?what I'd really would like to do is have the tailpipes exit behind both rear wheels.
jegs has a catback you can slap on in less than 3 hours with a set of ramps, a saws all...maybe a hammer and some wrenches. there are sets for single out, dual out straight and dual out behind rear wheels. the set for our fords has the 50 series (lil' quieter than 40). go to jegs and check it.
Luke--
Like I said above, the one I just picked up has no mufflers, and sounds pretty good, not too loud either. Has a slight touch of backfire when its reved hard though. The cheep exhaust tips are rusted thru. I thought I’d try some muffler exhaust tips.
