I've got one DOVE-A head and one C8VE head for my 70'429. Will I be able to use them both or have to find another matching one? I belive they are both 1970 heads. thanks
I would think you could but I don't know how much that would cost.
If I new how much you would have to shave off one to make the differece you could guess at the price, but you can't go to far on just one head do to the intake matching.
You could take them to your machine shop and have them cced (spelling?) to see exactly where you are, and then ask them if they can match them up for you.
Get a quote before doing this, because you might be able to buy a matching head or a pair cheaper.
Whith all that said I would still go with a matching set if I was doing it.
I have 2 sets of DOVE heads and 2 sets of C9VE heads and I just couldn't see me ever mixing them for any reason.
There are no appreciable differences in the early BBF castings. The chamber volumes can vary from 77 cc's + or - about 3 cc's even with a matched pair.
Porting to support 700 HP usually runs about 750.00.
There is no rational reason to go out and buy a matched pair of castings when you have two that have no discernable differences sans the casting date.
I would cc the chambers on each casting and get them with in a cc
You will approximately remove 2 cc's for every .010" milled from the deck.
