Unfortunately, my truck even being a Lariat doesn't have the neat little outside temperature gauge and compass on the mirror. I know some trucks have it on the mirror and some have it on the overhead console.
Anyway, I really am looking into getting a mirror with these features. I have been looking around a little bit, summit, jc whitney, etc. Some look good but I was just wondering if anyone else has installed or had any success with these.
Also, all these mirrors seem to come with this "Dimming feature" for bright lights behind you. I know what this does, but if I get a mirror like this do they work well? I already have 5% tint on the rear anyway so bright lights don't really bother me at all anyway.
If you have any links or sites I can visit to look at mirrors or maybe overhead consoles that would be awesome! Thanks.
I put an auto dim mirror from a Buick on my F150, and it works fine. However, its not real necessary on such a high vehicle with dark tinted rear glass. Consider how often you "flip" your manual mirror. Also, I believe the automatic mirrors (even from Ford) are a little smaller than your existing mirror.
Suggest you look on eBay for the temp/compass. I believe the compass control is usually at the base of the mirror bracket (or in the overhead console if you go that way), but you will need the exterior temp sensor, wiring, and of course, power and ground to the mirror. That makes the installation fairly difficult on some trucks.
Yea, I don't really want that auto dim feature. I just want outside temp and a compass. I would be happy then I promise. Yea there will probably be about 3 wires that go to the mirror: Ground, Power, and temp sensor wire.
