Radio noise

I am getting a buzzing noise thats comming from the radio in my 92 F150,it does not do it all the time but it seems to appear when travelling near power lines. Could it be from the altenator or the radio itself.the radio is a factory am/fm cassette.

Getting a buzzing noise from power lines is normal if you are listening to AM stations.

Its starting to do it on FM,I am beginning to think the radio is at fault as the volumn changes sometimes but I have a autozone altenator with about 75000 miles on it.

If it is the alternator, the buzzing noise will change with the engine rpm. What you can also try is taking the antenna loose from the body, clean up the area a little bit, and then remount it. The metal part of the antenna may not be making good contact out where it's mounted.

Check the antenna connection into the stereo. If the connection is good, then you might have a faulty antenna. As odd as that may sound. Another thing to check is the ground connection. Power running through or too close to ground will cause noise interference in the speakers
