My Brother in law has a 70 f100 long bed and is wanting to change it to a short bed. He was told that the holes were cut in the frame for a long bed and holes were there for the short bed. This is supposed to be straight from the factory and all you had to do is move axle, cut your extra frame off and get a short bed. Is this true? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks Keith
Basically, yes. You also need to get your driveshaft shortened, shock mounts relocated, reroute exhaust pipes, shorten tail light wires, remount your bumper, and drill new holes for the shackles and hangers for the rear springs. Good luck!

If you move the axle, it will not be centered under the frame 'kick-up'. I shortened my '70 by removing 16" of straight frame rail ahead of the rear axle- I cut it and welded it, with double butting and boxed it in. You also have to remove the extensions from the emergency brake cable, and shorten the hydraulic brake lines, too. I had to get another drive shaft- mine had a 2 piece. I've heard that shortening a frame in the middle like I did may not be legal in all states.
