sleep

how many hours of sleep do you get each night??

my schedual has been so screwed up this winter, last winter i got 8 hours of sleep a night while working my "winter job"

but now, my sleep schedual is so horrible.... alot of nights i dont fall asleep until well after 1:00am, get up at 6:00am. ive had 3 colds in the last 4 weeks, so most of the last 4 weeks i had it almost everyday. its totally tearing me down, i have no energy EVER.i am guessing i keep picking them up at the gym. so im up all night coughing and sneezing, starting taking Vitamine C pills again. plus, im so tired from work, and my body is shot from weightlifting.

i get home from work or the gym, and cant help but fall asleep on the couch, then when i wake up im wide awake and cant fall asleep when i need to at night.

do you all have any tips on how to have more energy during the day, when you are sore, tired, fatigued... im falling asleep at work even.

sorry if this sounds like a rant.. but i guess it sort of is!

Lay off the gym till you get better. You'll just make other gym rats sick. Then, get as much rest as possible at home. Drink lots of liquids, but not coffee or pop. Stick with water, juice or tea. If you're falling asleep when you get home, try to stay awake until your normal bed time. Other than that, I don't know what to tell you.

edit: I usually get 6 1/2 - 7 1/2 hours per night. Once in a blue moon, I get those insomniac nights where I fall asleep at about 4:30 or 5 just to get up again at 6:30.

Oh, yeah. Alcohol is out too. (If you're sick.) But I'm sure you aren't going to a bar to get better either.

Sleep...I've heard of this! Isn't this where you walk away from your computer for hours at a time to close your eyes or something like that?

Anyone know where I can download this "sleep" program?

I usually get somewhere between 6 - 7 on worknights. I've been off for the last 5 weeks so my schedule has been all messed up and I am a hardcore night person so sometimes I'll be doing crap on the PC till 0500 or even 0700 then sleep till noon. But I start my new job tomorrow so no more of that. have to be up at 0500, ugh, I hate mornings.

Just try consciously to not fall asleep on the couch. Turn the heat down in the house... Too hot will make anyone pass out. Go for a walk. Go to a mall and window shop, check out the latest gadgets at the electronics store.

Not getting enough sleep will definitely weaken your immune system and make you feel bad/catch colds. I get those too and as soon as I get a good nights sleep I start feeling better.

Eat 2 - 3 bananas during the day for potassium to help sleep.

If your weightlifting AND have a taxing job then you definitely need more sleep.

furball- thats kinda funny that you mention the bananas... i always eat 2-3 a day! and i take 2-3 protien shakes a day ( 29 grams each ) to ensure im getting enough protien. i think my diet is healthy enough, except the lack of greens.

I only sleep 2 nights anyway for about 8-10 hours one night and 6-7 hours the other night.

The other 5 days of the week I just sleep when I feel like it, usually get to bed about 3 or 4 maybe 5 in the afternoon and up about 9:30 or 10 that evening to go to work.

Heavenbound, if you find a version of that sleep program for Windows XP pro let me know and I'll pirate it from you.

Sleep? What's sleep? My schedule is so messed up I can only sleep for a couple hours at a time. It seems even if I do get to sleep someone wakes me up for something.

That's about what happens to me. Just when I develop a sleeping pattern over a few weeks something needs my presence and sleep pattern goes out the door. Like the last week, though these are commitments I devoted myself to over the past 4 years.

You will get plenty of rest when it is time for the "dirt nap". I don't like to sleep much. So I go until I can't go anymore and then I go to bed. But I get up at 5 am or before seven days a week. I guess I must think I will miss something important if I sleep too much. In the winter I stay away from crowded places like malls and gyms. Too much chance of catching something. I am self employed, so if I get sick, everything comes to a halt. I take vitamins and protein drinks. I drink alot of tea with honey in it too. And then I pray for an early spring.

For your colds try Zinc and Elderberry-available at a health food store or GNC- works wonders.
