Still having engine troubles. Engine won't turn over.
I pulled the alternator out and had it tested and they said it was still good. I am getting plenty of gas but no spark. I have replaced the ignition module, coil, and am open for more suggestions. I drove it for a day parked it and went to start it the next day and it just wouldn't turn over. I had taken it to the muffler shop and got a new catalytic converter. It's a 1982 with a 1985 351w I've tried everything I can think of and the Haynes books are no help.
I had this very same problem.....if all the units you described are in good working order...check the ground straps that connect the engine to the chassis/body.
There is one in front of the passenger side motormount. There is another that connects to the firewall on passenger side. There is one more that connects the starter to the frame next to the passenger side suspension (front))
remove, brush clean and reattach coating with a bit of ATF to keep corrosion off.
faulty grounds will do this.
ALso remove the starter cables clean the starter terminals and make sure to check the cables to see if they are still good.
Also check the Ign switch lead that goes into the starter....this was also hanging on by a thread when i found it.
a buddy of mine had this same problem. Turns out the brand new spark plugs he had were shot from factory. Check the plugs. Check the gapping. Are you getting a click from the starter?
