Question riser under Carburetor

Hello all

Sorry I should have looked past the 61-66 sections to find out more about the FE’s.

I have a question for you FE guys.

I have a 1965 f100 with a 352 standard transmission. I am getting ready to change out the 4 barrel Motorcraft carburetor that is way over sized with a new Holley 4 barrel 600 CFM. The truck has been bored once to .010 over stock and has headers and electronic ignition.

There is a riser under the Carburetor that is heated or cooled by the heater return line.

Do I need to run the heater water through this riser or is it even necessary here in California? I was thinking of bypassing the riser and not run the coolant through it.

What do you FE guys think?

Thanks

Jon

Its not neccesary to have it , if thats what your asking, many people do away with it, especially with aftermarket intakes. If you plan on keeping it as a spacer its not going to hurt anything to keep running water through it so there is really no need to bypass it, it would be easier just to take off and use shorter studs if you want to not use it.

Hello jd_sylvia.

I removed the one on my 67 F100, 390 and had problems with the fuel in the carb float bowl being evaporated. the answer I came up with was a Edelbrock 2" spacer. it is made of a phonelic plastic so it wont transfer heat to the carb. that stoped my fuel from evaporating. Holly and other MFGs make them also. and no you do not need the water going throu it. I hope this helps you out.

If you are going to run the stock cast iron intake, get a small spacer to keep from heating up the carb. They run under $20 bucks. I have an aluminum Edel intake and don't use a spacer with my Holley Street Avenger. No issues. But the cast iron intake will not disapate heat as quickly and may boil the fuel. I am sure some of the carb gurus will be able to speak to this.
