My truck transfers fuel from the front tank to rear tank (through the return line), and overfills it. The rear tank works fine! I called and wrote about the recall but it's too late and Ford won't honor it now. Has anyone done this themselves and if so how much was the part and how difficult was it?
If fuel is going to another tank that's the part to replace. This is a common part that goes bad on 87 to 89 trucks. I just changed mine on my 87 F150 4.9. You can only get it at Fords, look for a small dealership should run about 65.00 ( ask for net price). Your valve has no electrical wire to it, Napa... etc has a generic part with a wire, they won't work for your truck. The Valve has two 10 mm bolts, very easy to replace. To replace first relieve the fuel pressure. Then use a flat tip screw driver and lift and pinch the bottom. Mark where each line goes. When you remove the rear lines they will keep running fuel so you need to cap the 4 rear lines with something. Do one line at a time.
I can only use the back tank i cant switch to the front my dad said i need the swith on the trunk not on the dash
When the selector valve goes bad it can cause this problem to. it did it on my 87 f150. Fuel was being pumped to the front tank but the front tank would not run. You need to find out if your front pump comes on can you hear it when to turn the key to start? Should shound like the rear pump. Then check the fuel pressure to the front tank, intank pump maybe bad.
Joe 69 The fuel selector valve is located under the truck by the drivers seat, its black and had six fuel lines to it. Check everything else first.
