Ok i have an 87 BII eddie bauer, and the rear liftgate was having trouble shutting, i had to slam it hard and the plastic inside was cracking and coming apart because of it. so i decided to take the latches off (theres on on each side by the taillights) and clean them up and re-grease them and in doing so i accidentally snapped all 3 bolts going into the fiberglass, I tried to take them out/ drill them out/ hammer them out/ pry them out. Finally i had enough and just left it. So now i have a liftgate with only one latch and i dunno what to do next. help please.
well the thing is i took the plastic panel off and reached my hand inside and found nuts on the other side, but it would be impossible to get a wrench inside there. I guess ill just have to drill them out the hard way.
what you could do is drill a small hole and use one of those easy out things. it threads into the hole in the bolt and has a reverse thread so as you run your drill or what ever in reverse, it will tighten into the bolt and unscrew it at the same time.
your lucky, to fix my mine, i have to remove the whole door and rebuild the fame where the hinges attach because it rusted out and callapsed.
either way they are bolts they have thread on them you can't punch it out you'll damage the whole door trying to take it out drill it out is the best way and then rethread it . pb blaster/wd-40 etc... isn't going to do much remember the door is fiberglass and not metal .
righto... it might not do much for the plastic but if there is any rust, etc on the metal bolts it might break it down and provide some looseness that is obviously not there now.
