RDS Radio display problem

RDS Radio display problem
I tried doing a search on "rds radio", but kept getting back results for foRDS, lol.
Anyway, I have a 2004 Expedition EB with the 6-disc Audiophile radio and RDS (radio data system) display. The problem is that the RDS display of "Station, Artist, Title, etc." is garbled and sporadic, basically useless. The clock also loses time. To add insult to injury, my wife's Focus factory radio (Blaupunkt) with RDS display works flawlessly. This does not appear to be an issue of poor reception.
My local dealer has replaced the radio with a new one, but the problem persists. I also have a message in to Ford Customer Service asking about it, but no response, yet, though it's only been a couple of days.
Has anybody else experienced this phenomenon, or know of a fix for it, short of replacing the radio with an aftermarket version? I don't want to lose the auxiliary radio controls (steering wheel, rear seat).
