[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Sep-02 AT 04:54 PM (EST)]Just like the title sais, i have an 86 bronco that does not like to stay running when braking. Using the code reader i got the codes 12 RPM at idle out of range or high (seems to idle correct). 23 TPS out of range (TPS was just replaced). 32 EGR pressure feedback fault. 44 thermactor air system fault. Could anyone give me some insight as to why it's stalling from these codes? Also when starting the truck on an incline it has a tought time starting, fuel pump was replaced. Any help would be appreciated, thanks
At first glance, I'd have to guess that your brake booster may be bad. I realize I'm not addressing your codes (which may or may not result from a massive vacuum leak), but if you're getting the problem on braking, your pushing in on the pedal (with a leaky diaphragm inside the booster) could be creating a large vacuum leak, possibly enough to stall the engine. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the booster, plug it, and carefully (you won't have power brakes) drive the truck a short distance to see if the problem improves.
Well, i tried driving the truck without the booster and that didn't help. This week i'm going to replace the coil, fuel filter, and adjust the TPS. Hopefully this helps.
Best of luck..... One more item you may want to check: Remove the EGR valve (have a new gasket on hand) and check to see if the EGR port is carboned up. (This can make the truck idle poorly, or not at all). If so, you can clean away the carbon with a spray cleaner (EFI intake cleaner) and some elbow grease. Also, per your codes, you may check the EGR sensor. I'm not sure of exactly what symptoms a bad one would give you, but the poor running (at idle, I'm assuming) along with the EGR-related codes makes this area suspect.
