Trying to solve electrical problem. Here's what I have:
--86 F150 302 2wd auto
--Battery--6mos old
--Battery cables-new
--Starter--new
--distributor--new
--coil--new
--ignition module--new
Problem: Battery does not hold charge....truck will start with jump, but after running for a while will not restart....engine cranks very slowly...and battery seems dead. I get a reading of 15volts on battery when engine running.....
You could possibly have a bad cell in the battery. It sounds as though the alternator is charging alright, just a tad high. I've seen batteries with dead cells act like your symptoms. No garruntee but worth checking.

You were right.....checked everything else just to make sure..then took in battery.....6 month old heavy duty battery was toast. sometimes it's the simplest thing. Battery was replaced free...I'm up and cruising again.
hello,
i have had similar problems on my 1986 ranger. i replaced the alternator and everything was fine. you can usually get that checked for free and see if that's what you need.
15 volts does sound a bit excessive...supposed to be 13.8 ballpark. it is possible to ruin a battery by overcharging it. I would also check the alt. and regulator (if not internally regulated).
