312 w/ 2spd auto
Any tips before I send these off to the rebuilders? I thought the trans was going to be a problem but the trans guy said that he found a complete rebuild kit for it based on the case part number. The 312 has what appears to be an aftermarket manifold and carb. The carb is an early model Holley with an IH parts tag. The intake has no casting id but appears to say Offenhauser unless that's just wishful thinking. It does have the "Off " just barely showing. Last issue does anyone know if the 2 spd auto steering column for '61 will work with this transmission set-up? Any help on these questions will be greatly appreciated.

The eng/trans supposedly came from a '57 T-bird. It appears to be correct because of the floor shifter attached to the trans. The intake is aluminum. I'm still checking on the carb, it's a Holley but I don't know the specs. It has an International Harvester part tag with a number RM450AC/Spfld Assm/6-69

Okay it is a 312 and the intake is an Offy. The trans is a '57 model year 2 spd auto and they both bolt up to the '61 chassis mounts without any mods. The carb is a 450 cfm Holley from a 345 V8 Scout with e-choke. Oh yeah "312" the linkage from the new steering column ('63 auto) works perfectly, no mods required. Now it all comes out and off to the rebuilders. The rest of it goes to the paint shop.

If your tranny bolts to a "Y" block and is circa 1957 it's a Fordo-0-Matic and as 312 said it's a 3 spd not a 2 speed. The 2 speeds will not bolt to a Y block, they only bolt to early windsors with the 5 bolt pattern made, as he said, from 60-64 (actually Aug of 59 thru Jul of 64).
Some folks referred to them as 2 spds because whan you start with the selector in drive it's starting in intermediate, not Low, but low is there & the tranny is the 3spd forerunner of what became the FMX,cast iron main housing and all. It's a slug of a A/T too just like the FMX is. Eaqts lots of power but does not produce well.

Okay, the 2 spd was made from 1960 - 1964 but only bolted up to the early windsor? Is this then the transmission that was used behind the 221 V8? I think we are all talking about the same transmission as far as mine goes because the column is for a ford-o-matic and the shifter has 2 dots and "low"
