i have a 94 xlt with autolock and when i press the 4x4 button on the dash the light goes on but the wheels do not spin. i cant even go up my driveway in the snow. does anyone know how to manually lock or fix this problem.
There's no way to manually lock the auto hubs. If they aren't engaging, then something's broken that needs fixing. Some have reported that too much grease in the hub will prevent it from locking. If the hub is full of grease, you might try cleaning it out. In other cases, the "teeth" on the cam get rounded off, and then you need new hubs. If you end up needing new hubs, note that it is cheaper to buy two manual hubs than to replace one of the auto hubs (and manual hubs are more reliable).
A quick way to really tell if you have a bad hub, see if you can get either/both front axleshaft to spin without spinning the wheel (done by hand or by spinning in the driveway). If either axleshaft can spin without spinning the wheel, then you have a hub problem. If neither axleshaft is spinning, then you have another problem
