Today my 99psd quit running, for just a split second.A little later It was idelling in the parking lot of the Auto Zone"I went in to get a fuel filter" and it shut itself off??It started right up fine and I drove it home.Changed the oil,put in the new fuel filter, started it up backed out into drive way and let it idle for a while to check for any leaks. It ran for about five minutes and it shut off again??Started it up drove to the Auto Zone and they hooked it up to a scanner and it showed no fault codes? So I am at a loss as to what is going on with this thing!
I'm for the CPS also, mine just went out again and this time the truck just won't start! only 26,000 on the new sensor too. this will be the second replacement.
Most likely the CMP- which, for clarification, is the diesel's version of the gasser's CPS. It doesn't necessarily set a DTC either, esp on intermittent problems. Easy R&R, it's about $85 for the part I think. Make sure you get the updated CMP, there is a superceded version.
imho autozone uses a cheap scanner. got to advance. there's is a $400 dollar(actron) one it gets vehicle specific and prints you out the codes on a receipt. and yes this is personal experience. also autozone found zero codes on there scanner and 10 mins later at advance they found 2. i'll let you make your own choice on this one.
Thanks guys,I am sorta glad it seems to be the cmp, easy fix.I'll call the International dealer to day.I went to Advanced right after Auto Zone,They used the same type of scaner and it also showed no fault codes.I gotta make it to work and back befor I can do anything!!!Wish me luck.
The info I have is:
F7TZ-12K073 A (FMC)
I don't know IHC's part #.
I believe the new ones have gold plated contacts. The failure rate was higher on the old ones, so they issued a "new and improved". We'll see about that. Just verify with the stealer that the CMP is the new issue one, and you're not getting one that been on the shelf for years. They should be able to look up the # on the box and see if it's a superceded # or a current one.
Well,I got the new cps, havent installed it yet.The only other thing I noticed during this stupid cold weather is in the morning, when I start it the ABS light is on and the"off" light on the end of the shifter blinks on and off,And sometimes the gas pedle doesnt work, until the truck worms up???
Are you still driving the truck around?
I would suggest you replace the CMP before using the truck because if it's a bad CMP, the truck can quit anywhere, anytime, possibly leaving you stranded in traffic, or a blizzard!
I would also suggest you replace the CMP, check/record/clear any DTCs, then see if any new ones pop up. The SRS MIL and OD light (which also functions as a trans MIL) SHOULD be unrelated to your problem. But maybe the CMP and the problems it's causing are tripping your PCM out, maaan.
Or, it could be something else. But, start with the primary problem and go from there.

Reason: typo
I am brave, lazy,or just stupid..I havent changed CMP yet! My troubles all seem to start when the temps get down around 5deg or less?I always plug my truck in during the winter and never have troulble starting it in the morning.I`ll miss with it this weekend and see what happens. Thanks for ALL the input,All of you!!
No, you're probably like me, BUSY!
At a minimum, carry the CMP and the proper wrench w/ you until you can R&R. That way, at the worst, you can change it out where you're at if/when it fails!
