Leaky Gas Tank

Got a leaky gas tank on a 95 F150, wondering if anyone has ever replaced one themselves and how hard it was and how long it took them.

I've dropped tanks before, not to replace the tank itself, but the broken float/pumps inside. If you're taking your time, its a 2 hour job. Its not a hard job either, just unpleasant. Dirt and junk falls into your face, and if the tank has any gas in it its extra heavy, as gas weighs about 5lbs a gallon more or less.

All you're doing is undoing the straps, gently lowering the tank, then forcibly rotating off the collar at the top where the fuel lines and wiring goes in, to put on the new tank.

I did the exact same thing and then took 1/2" rubber hose and slit one side and wraped them around the sharp sides of the straps.

Interesting tip: When you locate the leak use a bar of soap to press against the leak area. Rub firmly. The leak will stop and allow you to clean rust or whatever and make a good repair with J. B Weld. Be sure to let it set over night. Lon.

trk98, just wondering if it was a good tank or is it a cheap lighter gauge material?
