I recently bought an 81 f150 302 with stock rebuilt 2v carb. It starts and runs but it idles real fast and its real hard to kick it down. The idle screw is not touching the throttle. When you give it gas it pretty much stays revved up even when warm. When you move the throttle by hand (with air cleaner off and motor running) it seems real stiff and almost in a bind but with the motor off the carb throttle is real smooth and closes down. Ive looked at all the vac lines. Ive pulled the vac lines off the carb when its running, the 3 lines on the front and side (including distributor vac line) don't make any difference as far as the motor running. The big one in the back will kill it though. I bought the Haynes book today and will start reading it. I'm planning on getting an edelbrock manifold and 4v carb. Am I wasting my time trying to get this 2v setup right, or should I just put the new mods on and hope it fixes the problem. Thanks for any help and advice.
try resetting the choke it sounds like it is set to rich and the spring is holding the butterfly and the high idle screw may be set high causeing the higher idle
..... the choke should be set mid range between lean and rich.. depending on your climate the warmer the leaner the choke setting needs to be and the colder the richer but if you go to rich it idles it a lot higher and uses a lot more gas hope this helps
