I have a guy working on my 1986 F150 2x4 5.0 ltr efi. I had shorty headers and a catback system and flow master with cats installed. I asked him to have the truck smogged. he handed it off to a mechanic next door who finally found the computer hookup and found out that it needed an 02 senser which he replaced. The truck still would not pass. He directed his attention to the injectors and tried to clean them out buy adding a cleaner to the gas and running it out. Still no luck. The test is better but not pass-able. He wants to start replacing injectors. Does anyone recall this sort of issue and do you have any idea what might be causing this problem? Thanks in advance..
If putting the stuff in the gas tank helped the injectors, take it to someone who has the more potent cleaning system. They disconnect the truck fuel system, and hook a can of concentrate to the engine. The engine runs on this only, and it really does a better job. A tune-up with new plugs would not hurt either.
Thanks for the reply. There was some talk yesterday about one or two of the injectors not getting the signal from the computer to close. Something about them not being correctly grounded. Geezz give me a carborator..;-)
Keep track of what you are spending. In CA once you reach $450 (parts & labor) you are eligible for a 2 year waiver. Maybe your DMV has a similar policy.
