I looked through the Chilton 65-86 book....no numbers even closely resembling that.
Maybe it's a rebuilders number.

i had the same prob wiht my truck as well. you say its a carter. they are hard to find in sum areas, i had a motorcraft on my truck and switched to a reproduction carter. the prob i ran into was the engine wasnt the engine that was in it orig. my truck is a 1979, but the engine is a 1975...the intake manifolds had a wider spacing from 68,69 to 75, then after that they went back to small , then big again...so i dunno, this might help..id go with the idea of a rebuilders number myself. it took me 4 days to find, order the right one, after they had given me 2 wrong ones before hand...so...

Was the number stamped into the carb base, on a metal tag attached to the air horn, or cast into the body? The correct number shoudl be stamped into a metal tag. If the tag is lost I've seen many carbs with the carb # stamped into the carb body. If the number is cast into the body, and therefore is actually raised above the surrounding surface, it is not the correct #. I've had many a customer give me a carb number that was cast into the body. It's an easy mistake to make.
If your number is correct it may be that the kit manufacturer just doesn't make a kit for that particular carb. Try another supplier. In my experience Tomco seems to have better coverage on "odd" numbers than does Hygrade.
I'll take a look at my catalogs tomorrow and see if I can get you a part number for this number carb.

Thumbs up Carb part #

That would be a great help if you could find the correct number. Youre exaclty right. The number I have was cast on the carb itself. I didnt see any tag with a number on it. The only other number I did see on the carb was 8509 with a slash underneath and 5

8509
____

5

similar to that.

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Doug, what year truck is it? Look toward the base of the carb, down by the throttle plate. See if its stamped there. We just did the same on a guy at works carb and it was stamped there. Hose it down with carb cleaner. Crud might be covering the numbers.

OK Doug, I checked this AM and I come up with a Hygrade part # of 1220C with the corresponding float part number of FL38. It fits Ford 300 6cyl with a Carter YFA from 1981 through 1986. Shouldn't run more than $30 for the kit. Hope it helps.

Carb part #

I really appreciate the info guys..Do you usually replace the TP sensor when you have rebuilt yours or replaced a carb?..Is there a test you can run on it to insure its giving the right feedback? Btw my truck is an 84.

Thanks-
Doug
