Please let us know if it was really fixed?? I've been dealing with the same exact thing for about 2 months. Spent $443 at dealer one time to find number 1 was bad and replace fuel filter, then it was number 2, now no light and truck bucks at slight acceleration at about 45 mph? If I take the plugs out and reconnect everything, it will run good for two days! Then out of no where its back. Feels like you are fishing when you start getting a bite!! Its making me crazy! I am just going to ride it out until it dies! I starting to wonder if its something related to where the electricity is sent from, to the packs?? Please give us an update as to how your truck is doing?? Hopefully its fixed for good!
All 8 were replaced 20,000 miles ago. Within last 2 months I've replaced three 3 more. Each time I replace a COP I replace the plugs.
Did notice something strange in Number 5 last weekend though and have been thinking about a lot. There was some moisture on the boot when I pulled it. No. 5 looks is pretty close to thermst housing. Moisture on boot was clear though, no green antifreeze?
Racerguy, it seems like there's a theme across many posts. Coil problem. Replace. Two days later another coil problem. Am I imagining this? If not, is there something obvious like water down the tube or oil/crankcase vapors coming out a tube gasket that causes repeat failures? If the just took the coils out and baked them at 200 degrees from an hour, would the same one work just as well?
I've never seen COP problems one after another like people on here have. Maybe the climate is different where I am or something but we get lots of rain which I think would be worse. Usually it's 1 COP or plug but rarely more than 1 that is misfiring.
As for baking the COPs I'm not sure. They should get that hot with the engine running.
Anyone here tried this?
Water in the plug wells can sure cause problems. Ken do you put any dielectric grease on the COPs before you install them? That helps keep water out. You can also get some waterproof spray for electrical components. I wonder if that would help?
Yes, I use grease on the spring and the outer edge/lip of the boot to seal when it goes in. Ford did that on the new cops they put in so figured I'd do it as well. I noticed something today which was strange. When I have the a/c controller on panel/floor the a/c cuts on and off. Each time it cuts on the truck almost dies? This is sitting at idle. When turned off truck still spudders at 50 mph in overdrive. All gears, but worst in over w/ slight accel at 50mph. Today was really bad! Was hoping it would trigger a code, but didn't
I'm beginning to think its not the cops?? something somewhere related but haven't figured out?
I have a 01 SCAB same missfire prob no CEL ever. I have been working on this for 2 months, no matter what I do the miss always comes back, it's getting very old.
I'm ready 2 have a car-b-q and clam the insur. JK
I will b taking my truck in on friday again maybe just maybe they will find the prob.
Are you taking your truck to a dealer or other shop?
Your dealer can watch the cylinder power balance with the engine running to pinpoint which cylinder is misfiring, even with no check engine light.
