Hey Guys! I decided to go a head and get rust proofing done to my 04 XLT Supercrew! I was under my truck a few weeks ago and saw how the frame already started to rust up on me, which kinda got me worried since I want to keep this truck for a long time to come and did not want it rusting up on me. I'm getting a package of stuff that comes with the rust proofing. Obviously there going to spary the bottom of the truck, spary the fenders in the back where it's pretty much just metal there anyway, and I think havign black i nthe fender walls will look better. I'm also getting whats call "paintguard" which they put some kind of spray on the truck itself after having to strip all the wax off it to start with. This will keep the truck from ever fading in the sun and getting marked up by weather itself. Also getting "Fiberguard" which will keep any kind of water from hitting the seats or carpet and just having the water bead up and not go into the seats or carpet.
Basically everything there going to do to the truck will be warrentied for the life of the truck, even if 10 years down the road I sell it, the guy who buys it will also carry over the warrenty if the truck ever starts to fade or rust, they will repair it. I went to another dealership for this sine the one I brought it from kinda got rude to me and I did not want to give them anymore buisness. The other dealer I went to was great! He gave me 50% OFF this hole deal!!! He I saw that I had my truck in there dealer for service, a long with there own body shop after getting into a minor fender bender. He saw that I was already giving that dealer buisness and went a head and did me a favor as well and gave this hole package to me for 50% OFF! The hole thing would have costed me just over 900 dollars, and I got it for just under 500!!!! :-) Can't wait to get it back and see what it looks like!!!
ohh..by the way..if I ever find out how to use my computer, I'm going to try and get pictures of my truck up here for you guys to see. You guys probably see me on here quite often and probably wondering what the heck I even drive! lol I can see what I can do..have a good one!
I Hope They Do A Better Job Than The Local Ziebart Rustproofing
Did For Me In Indy. I Had To Take It Back 5 Times Before They Sprayed Over The Back Wheel Wells Correctly. (where Pu Trucks Always Rust)
Don't normally reply to these, only read them....but, unless it's too late. The paint sealant your can do for yourself for $5 on an afternoon. With the new metals in vehicles today, the rustproofing only increases the liklihood that you vehicle will rust. Keeps moisture in not out. I have cars and trucks in my garage with over 100K miles and 15 years old with not rustproofing and NO rust. Keep washing the vehicles when they are dirty, underneath as well, and waxing regularly and it will be time and money better spent
MJ, I'm with Mark on this one. With the modern alloys that are used, rustproofing or undercoating just isn't necessary. If you do go ahead with it, I'd recommend having them protect the driveshaft from getting sprayed. With all the vibe issues with these trucks, the last thing you want is an unbalanced drive shaft with rustproofing on just one side of it.
It's not "paintguard" it's called paint sealant. When I sold cars (back in the 60's) it was called a dealer pack. That means it was worthless but added big bucks to the dealer. My marketing Professor in college actually started a company based on it. Made millions! What the dealer sold for $259.95 actually cost $5 plus the labor to "wax" the car. You can buy this stuff at any good auto parts store. I am defintely not in the auto business any more but would recommend any of the MacGuire products or Eagle products. I'm sure there are many others. There is nothing that will replace regular waxing of your F150. And why wouldn't you. That shows the neighbors how proud you are of it. Just trying to save you some $$$$.
Oh, by the way. When I said that I had cars in my garage without rust...I live in Michigan, rust capital of the world. Well, maybe next to Switzerland.
My brother runs a body shop and the problems with rustproofing is far worse than anything it protects. The rustproofing stops up many of the drains resulting in water being held where it shouldn't be. Causes rust and other problems. Sunroof drains are frequently stopped up and it caused leaks through the sunroof and the problem is sometimes hard to find.
