Aluminum Heads

My '54 panel with a "72 Torinio frame and 460 "waddles" down the street. It has sway bars and I suspect the 460 is too heavy for the frame. How much weight will aluminum heads and waterpump save me? Anyone out there got a set of used ones for sale? Any suggestions on beefing up the front suspension? Got air bags in the rear. Thanks, Jim

Jim the Torinio had a 429 option at one time in its life so I don't thinks its the frame. Do you have you airbags tied together. If you do air will leave one and get transfered to the other making body roll worse. You just need to get the suspension setup right. I leave that to the pros.

Aluminum heads will only save you about 70lbs total.

A lot of the time the "waddle" is tire sidewall flex accentuated by soft springs, failing shocks, and/or loose or worn out suspension bushings. Before you spend a ton of money on other stuff, try changing the shocks and going to stiffer bushings (poly, or graphite impregnated). If a friend has some low aspect ratio tires that will fit, try swapping them on temporarily and see if that helps as well.

Also, how big is the swaybar that you have? Is it factory original? If so, it's probably far too small for your application. The original units were kinda on the wimpy side.
