Well, just discovered this forum, and believe I am in the right place. To the point:
Just picked up a '93 F250 with a 460/4x4/EFI/AT. She is looking at a lot of mileage (208,000), and needs some TLC. Before I begin her revival, I wanted to dig for some opinions. Her obvious problems are as follows:
- Exhaust manifold leak (surprise),
- What appears to be a leak at the seam of the block and oil pan,
- Stearing pump ready for retirement...
The questions:
- I have not stayed under her long enough to see if the oil pan can be removed without any major parts removal, any experience in this department?
- Looking like I will treat her to a banks exhaust system, headers on back. Anyone feel the stock components require matching, or will she do just fine?
- Anyone intimate with this truck want to share some input for a guy about to get fresh with'er and make some changes?
Appreciate any feedback from the forum...
-Bill

with that many miles on it I wouldn't worry about the leaking oil pan, and taking it off while in the truck Iwould either run it for now, and fix it when you pull hte engine to rebuild it or build another engine, and swap when you are done, and definatly wouldn't worry about putting a new banks system or upgrades on it until the engine was fresh, it would work fine for now I would just leave it stock until your ready to refresh the engine.
Ditto monsterbaby. I wouldn't put a bunch of money into improvements until the engine was freshened up a bit. Check around, you might get lucky and find a low mileage engine at a local wrecking yard for less than a standard rebuild.
The components you're naming are good ones, and good ideas for a better performer, but you might want to invest in getting the engine back into shape first.
