Hey guys. Well finally it happened. I had the headers installed and what can I say. But frigin sweet. They are hedman shortie's. We had some initial fitment issues with them not being long enough to fit the y-pipe but it worked out.
Now to the sound. With the super turbo's you can't expect a whole lot but it is alot louder and crisper. The bark is wicked at 3000 rpm and she roars at 4000 rpm. Just crazy what headers does. As for performance I can see better acceleration but only after we installed the new TPS. Mine was toast and the motor was working 50%. She works 100% now or close to it.
I have a few questions tho. When I put my foot on the gas I can hear a small trickle. Now it doesn't sound like a leak, but my mech said its exhaust gases entering the headers. I said huh? Anyways I just want to know if it's bad. I had leaks before but this is louder. There is no apparent leak that you can hear on the outside, just in the cab.
Stupid tps. My truck was running so bad but it is better now. Man. Felt like driving into a wall of marshmellows with a bad tps.
So overall it was good. I am impressed with the sound, all I need now is a good set of mufflers. Still looking for some purple hornies or maybe some bullets.
Oh and just in case someone didn't know, there were no manifold gaskets. I used good victor rines gaskets and all I am going to do is tighten the bolts down. Later.
The gases entering the headers sounds like a whooshing sound. At initial start up I hear it and when I pass a car on the highway I hear it reflect off the car I just passed......I was sure it was a leak.....but none.....I installed the headers myself and They do make a big difference. One then to consider....the stock manifolds are thick cast iron....very good sound and heat insulators......my headers anyways are stainless steel.....alot thinner that cast iron so they do not keep the sounds and heat within them......took some getting use too but I did......BTW I have a V10......installing headers with 5 tubes per side is a PITA......you were smart getting them installed......I installed mine because I did not trucst anyone else with the common problem of breaking the manifold nuts and stud removal.......that was all I neede to have so impatient mechanic break one and say sorry the job just got more expensive....
Ya. It might be a leak and it might not be. I am pretty sure that he did it right. They are on tight and I will check as soon as the snow storm is over. I noticed a power gain at about 3000 RPM. It was deadly. She just barks and she has more power now. I am thinking about other mods as well plus body work.
2.25" pipe makes good tq I think. And plus no cats makes it better. I am still looking for new mufflers tho. Any thoughts?
I installed my Dynomax Headers myself, they were a PITA to install. I had to remove the jack up the passenger side of the motor then slide the starter and header in at the same time. The drivers side header wasant too bad but I had to remove all clutch linkage to get it in there. I did have a slight issue with the headr flange hitting the clutch fork a little, so I just groound down the flange and that did the trick. I love the Dynomax's, gave me a lot more power.
We found out it was bad by hooking up our mulitmeter to the open and closed throttle. I can't really remember the numbers off the top of my head but my truck was performing half as good as it should. So in full throttle we'll say its about .8, mine was working at .4. So knocking and sputtering and delayed response would occur. She works really good now. Will totally smoke off those 235's. lol. It's great. Gotta stop tho because I'm so doing damage to my driveline. lol. Love it tho. Frigin trucks are great.
Moose, I have a 1995 250 with a 5.8. I plan on doing the close to the exact thing to my exhaust. I plan on putting an X-pipe right where the huge cat should be. I have emissions where I live so I am putting in 2 catco cats then two 40 series flowmasters. The exhaust will exit right in front on the passengers side rear tire. How will it sound? How does yours sound? I want it to sound good.
