First time diesel owner
Hi everyone. I'm about to own a 6.0L Powerstroke for the first time. What do I need to know about being a good diesel owner? Do I plug it in every night in the winter? What is the best oil & filter? How often should I change the oil? Are there any other preventative maintenance tips I should know? How about mods? Thanks

If it gets down to 5 deg. or below you might want to consider plugging it in. there are several strings about oil changes, but just follow the owners manual. It all depends on your driving conditions. If you live a really cold part of the country you might want to go to a lighter weight oil. This is also described in the diesel suppliment manual. You will enjoy the power. Keep on truckin.

There are a number of FTE 6.0 members that have the remote start for their diesels and they work fine...with a delay timer for the glow plugs even.

I read a thread that mentioned they thought all '05 diesels had the block warmer built in. So if I buy a truck off the lot that does not have the plug I can just buy the plug and wire it in?
We do get 1-2 cold days a year here in DFW

That would be correct. You might want to try to just make it part of your "deal" along with a hood insulation blanket maybe? Just a thought...nothing ventured...nothing gained.

the operative phrase when buying a car/truck is "studied disinterest"
You're sorta kinda interested, but they NEVER need to know how much !!!!
You don't HAVE to buy from them, there are 20 dealers in a 25 mile radiius of me
competition is a GOOD thing...
