I live in southern Alberta and it is -30c , checked hpop reservoir, block heater, glow plug relay, it tachs while cranking but no oil pressure? it fired once after i shot it with ether, ran for 10 sec. and stalled. It hasn't fired since, even if i shoot it with ether. some help on this would be appreciated. By the way it's a 1996 f-250 psd 4x4 extended cab long box
The other day one of your fellow countrymen was having fuel gel problems near Melfort Saskatchewan. His temps were –48. He used regular gasoline deicer to get to the nearest station. Said it took about ten minutes to work. An elder poster suggested he get some Power Service 911 diesel fuel deicer and keep in the vehicle. Apparently gasoline deicer will work but the alcohol in them can damage the injectors. It’s also a good idea to use a fuel additive every time you fill your tank. These additives are good for your engine, give you improved fuel mileage and increased power as well as eliminating the risk of fuel gelling. Many of the users at this site use Standyne diesel additive with each fillup. Most will say the improved mpg more than makes up for the cost of using the additive. In your case it's probably worth it jsut not to get stuck on the roadside at -30
about the only way is to warm the whole truck somehow. We have to do this with our school buses if they gel up. We also change the filters at the same time.
Yea it was just as cold, i pluged it in one night but when i went to use the truck a few days later , icycled the glow plugs and it stayed on way longer than normal, like it wasn't pluged in. Maybe it wasn't plugged in properly? this would cause the truck to freeze up solid. it has been plugged in all day and still nothing. if i can't get it going tommorow, i will have to call a tow truck and pay real money.
I bought some anti-gel fuel conditioner but how do i thaw the gelled fuel in the heads?
The guy the other day was stuck on the side of the road and added it to the tank there. I'm no chemist but it sounds like it will migrate throughout the system all by itself.
if you have an amp gauge you could check to see if the block heater is working or you should be able (if it is quiet) hear a sizzling noise. Good luck.
When you pulled the filter, did the pump reprime the system, or is the bowl still empty? Have you tried filling the bowl with Power Service, or Howes, or whatever anti-gel you bought to see if would fire on that?
