A nice basic truck that has great potential for aftermarket improvements.
Solid red, and it is definately RED!

I'm happy so far.

I believe the regular cab has 13 inches of room behind the seats and has little doors to gain access to the back. Someone please correct me on this if I'm wrong.
Ford doesn't offer the 4.2 with the manual transmission. So you're stuck with the auto for now. But Ford will reintroduce the manual transmission later on, I hope.
BTW, BrianA, congrats on your new '05 F150. When your done with it, post some pics for all of us to drool over, okay?
Thanks, guys!

You are correct - about a foot behind the seats with a small side door on each side to open for access.. It is "handy" but not as much room as a crew cab. I think it will suit my needs just fine.
Ford lists the manual transmissionas "late availability".
I might would have chosen the 5 speed had it been available now. But, the auto is fine. Each has their pros and cons.
There are lots of changes under the hood for the 4.2 compared to my 2000 - at least externally. I imagine it remains very similar to the '04 and prior variants internally, but I might be wrong. There have been some changes along the way already, so maybe this is just another step.
Coil pack is now sitting on top of the passenger's side valve cover.
Intake plenum is (still) black plastic - my 2000 was aluminum. Doesn't use green coolant any more.
Engine aside, the '05 is a much improved truck. Ride quality, structural rigidity, etc., all are improved. I LOVE my 2000, it's like your best pair of sneakers, or your favorite baseball cap. It "fits" me. I hope to feel the same about the "05 as time goes on.
EPA rating is 16 and 20. About the same as my 2000 was rated, and about what it was capable of.
The '05 weighs about 400 lbs more than my 2000. Not a whole lot of difference when you look at the two side beside. The '05 is just a "bigger" truck.
Anyways, I'm anxious to see how it turns out.
I'll keep you guys posted.

BrianA, I wonder what the cab will look like with a manual transmission. You paid $15k for your '05? That's not bad. What is the performance like in the new and heavier platform? Did you get any options with it, like cruise and tach and so on?
Is it a short bed or long bed? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you got a short bed. What are your plans for it? Are you gonna do the standard mods like all of the 4.2'ers here? Let us know and we can maybe help you out here, okay? Isn't that why we're here? To help each other out?
Thanks!
