Choke problems?
I'm plugging away at my problems one at a time.... I have an '86 F-350 4x4 w/460. When it's cold, it starts right up the first time, runs for about 5 seconds, then dies. Right before it dies, there is a soft klunk from the engine compartment...similar to the klunk it makes when I turn off the air conditioner. Second time I try to start it, I need to give it plenty of gas pedal to keep it running. For a minute or so, if I take my foot off the gas (like to put on the brake when rolling backwards down the driveway!), it dies. So, its a bit of a dance to roll down backwards, turn, put it in gear, and go forward, all while keeping the engine revved enough to run.
After a minute or so, all is fine.
It sounds like a problem with the choke to me. Is there something simple I can check or fix? It's got a rebuilt Holley on it..

It does sound like your choke needs adjusting. That soft thunk is probably the carb backfiring up under the aircleaner when it leans out. If your carb has the black round housing on the pass side of the carb, then turn it a little bit in the "richer" direction and then try it. It may take some experimentation and a couple of cold mornings to get it just right.
