I saw a '77 f250 4x4 crewcab ranger for sale.
According to the door jamb plate, it was made
in 6/1977.
Does it have a front dana 60? Easy way to tell?
How easy / difficult would it be for me to take
the 460 engine and put it in my '68 250 4x4?
My '68 250 is a stock 4speed stick. It might
be a T-18 (not sure). Would
I need a different transmission?
Most likely it is not a D60 but the easiest way to tell is to look at how many bolts are on the kingpin cap. If it's got 4 bolts around the cap it'll be a 60. I think the D44's had 3. The hubs will also be approx. 4" in diameter.
There weren't any bolts under the lower knuckle plates,
just a large hole in the center of the cap plate. On close look,
the plate itself also seemed a little smaller than I would have
expected (not knowing for sure though either way).
I measured the diameter of the hub: about 3".
So I guess it's a D44. I think I'll pass on it
and keep looking (sigh). Thanks...
You think you've got problems, try finding a D60 front in Australia! I'm starting to have thoughts about adapting a LandRover 101 front end to fit... (same center, but only low pinion). Otherwise, Mitsubishi Canter maybe?
I've got a D44 8 stud front end out of something, but I think it must have been a special import because I'm having a lot of trouble getting bearings, brake parts etc.
look at the cast webbing by the diff cover it will have the modle cast into it all crew cabs came from the factory with 60's in 77 they wre usually sold to like railroads or power companies as working trucks for carring work crews
