Frame swap
I normally browse the 61-66 forum, but I need some help from you guys.
I am currently restoring a '64 longbox and have decided to swap it onto a newer frame for the modern upgrades. The ticket is apparently to use a 73-79 4x4 frame (the closest match to a '64 where the cab mounts)....sorry if this is a dumb question but....are the front end components from a 2 wheel drive a direct bolt-on to a 4x4 frame?
I have a '75 XLT with a great running gear, the cab mounts and body from my '64 and a '65 parts truck. The 4x2 frame WILL work for the swap but it is alot of work to match up the body/mounts etc.(the frame is wider). Should I keep looking for a 4x4 frame or am I wasting time if I can't put the 4x2 front end on?
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Mike.
as far as the second question, i cant figure out what you have and what you are doing
, can you be more specific, ie; (75 2x4 for the running gear)(64 for the cab)(will it work)
I have a '64 Custom Cab longbox that I am restoring...I want to put it on a newer frame so I can have disc brakes, power steering and I.F.S. I have been told that I should be looking for a 4x4 frame as it is the closest in dimensions to my '64....I don't want to build a 4x4....I know I can make the '75 frame mate up to my '64 body, I was hoping that using the 4x4 frame would simplify things a little.
If you have any ideas that I have not heard I would love to hear them!
Thanks agian.
Mike.
