Ordering.Need help deciding

Going to order from Jeff. Getting my final spec's in order to give Jeff the final rundown. The truck will be F250 cc powerstroke 4x4 lariat.

I didn't see where the limited slip was an option, but I assume I just missed it. Would you order it? Is it worth spending more money for it, I have read a few posts that the ls is garbage especially with the torque of the powerstroke?

Was thinking about the 18"wheels? Obviously I'd have to upgrade the tires also and with the controversy over the Garbage tires that Ford chose to use, I'm thinking twice. Would you upgrade to the bigger wheels? How hard is it to find tires for the 18" and do they run a lot higher in price being an oddball size?

Want a remote start. Being that I live in New Jersey and Jeff's dealer/contacts are in New york (350 miles away) Would you have them install it or wait till I get the truck home and get it locally? I like the idea of having it done before I pick the truck up( If this is even an option), but am worried about what I'd do if it starts malfunctioning.

All replies and suggestions welcome. thanks in advance
Taz

The limited slip is part of the axle option you've chosen- the correct code will trigger the LS. I've never given it much thought- we order it automatically in all our inventory because our customers expect it to be there. This is in the Pacific Nwst, where we deal with hills that you would call ski resorts, and do more than our fair share of off-road and recreational driving (boats, trailers, etc). One thing to remember is that a Lariat PSD is going to be stoopidly expensive no matter how you spec it (but you know that already, right?). Come resale/trade-in time, it's going to be a lot harder to explain why it doesn't have something than why it does.

re: 18' wheels and tires. Are you planning an aftermarket wheel/tire upgrade anyway? That's probably the answer right there. i don't think 18" tires are going to be oddball much longer- as time goes on, we'll see more 17" and 18" truck tire sizes than the previously standard 15" and 16".

From reading Jeffs posts, I think he's probably your best source of advice on how to handle those and the other issues you've mentioned.

Congratulations TD, I'm taking the same route as you (NJ-VanBortel) only for a V10. Got my order in earlier this week.

As to your questions, a crummy LS is better than none, I went for it.

On the 18's, if you have cornering performance in mind , they are the best alternative, for work and towing its not so critical. By the time you're ready for your second set of tires there should be a fine selection to choose from.

Ford isn't doing remote starters on the 2005, so aftermarket is going to be your only option.

I had no LS on my 00 SD V-10, and I have it on my 04 SD 6.0, and what a difference it makes. I REALLY can tell.

There is no way I would order it without LS. As polarbear said, at resale time it would me much tougher to explain why it does not have it than to spend a few bucks to get it in the first place. I am sure you would never ever regret having it. As for the wheels, that's all you. If they still offered a 16" wheel, I would take those The remote start, you and Jeff can talk about that. That kinda stuff is for rich folk, not us poor peeps with XL's

Remote start depends on your funds, dealer told me that I didnt want theirs, and Ive read not so good things about it. I ponied up at Car Toys for a Viper alarm, remote start system. Love it, even down in the south, on those cold mornings it is nice to have the cab warm, PSD almost warmed up. And it has turbo cool down feature, engine runs for a time before shutdown after you get out. Depends on your taste and budget. My budget is much smaller now
