82 AutoTrans speedometer
Need help with the speedometer on a 82 F-100 V8...Speedometer quit working..Replaced cable with no positive results...I understand I may need some kind of " Computer chip " or Speed sensor ??..Was told that 82 was the first year this part was used?
Can anyone tell my what it might be and just where it is located ?

I think someone is pullin your chain. You may need to replace your speedo gear. ON my 4x4, it is on the tailshaft of the transfer case, so I would think the gear would be located on the tailshaft of the tranny. It's held in the branny by a small bolt, just a little tug (careful not to break anything) will make it come right out.

thats exaclty correct its in the tail shaft of the tranny just a little 7/16 bolt holds it in unbolt that pull it out with the cable also test the cable by turning it and see if the speed gauge moves as well. and when replacing it make sure you count the teeth on the old on and replace it with the same if its not it will throw the speedo out of calibration and read wrong Good luck
