If I can offer one criticism...it's a pet peeve of mine. You may choose to ignore it completely.
The core support that is visible behind the grille should be black. Body color to the upper parts and backside is no problem, it looks good. But body color showing through the grille to me just looks 'wrong'.
Like I said, my peeve. Ignore if you wish.
Mine is about a month away, also. I agree on the core support paint, it makes it look like a cheap repaint. Chassis Black is definately the way to go. Mine will be Black up and Rangoon Red lower. No hole filing (I have restored all the emblems) except for the ones that were made by West Coast Mirrors, going back with the round ones. Door jambs black, interior black paint, bed black paint, and black tailgate with red letters. Chrome Bumpers and aftermarket Magnum 500 wheels and redline tires. Maybe they didn't build it that way, but I think they should have! The seat will be a red/black combo with the gear & lightning bolt embroidered in the stock location. Carpet black with red ACC floor mats with the same Gear/L-bolt embroidered on them. Old Air in Fort Worth will be the A/C system. Now for the cool part. Yesterday I made arrangements to trade the current 351C for a complete 312-4bbl Y and 2 speed auto out of a '57 T-bird. What do you think a '61 Lightning?
Paint makes everybody feel better; I agree on radiator support area; black will make the rest of the truck stand out and look more professional; but your truck is the only thing that matters too you and it will be your choice;
I'm also going to paint at end of month; I'm going against factory colors with a two tone Black & white combo; Black lower half with top protion white (hood & top bed rail ) and top of the cab black as well;
Wish I read this thread prior to having embroidered a FORD Oval in seat center; gear / lighting bolt combo will definitly be done to next project.
I plan on doing chassis black behind the grille later. (as every thing we add to the paint job up's the price just that much more). Plus....I will be able to separate the coral engine compartment from the grille area however I choose.
For the time being though, it is going to look nice as this truck is not a stock resto. More of a mild custom........
Right now I am excited about getting the truck to this stage......
Also I did the Lightning bolt/Gear on my seat as well and it always gets comments
My 66 4x4 goes in this Wedsday also, I 'm getting my arm fixed and the truck gets new paint. It will be twotone, Teal Gren with blue pearl in it on the bottom and light gray on the upper and hood. It will be in the style of a Custem Cab truck, but the chrome strips will be painted on.
Hey Bertha66 I'm about ready to get my arm or arms fixed.....man does this sanding ever end? The PO put a crappy paint job over the orig. and when he painted the interior theres no primer so the old stuff is flaking off....real mess but I'm starting to win the battle. Good luck fellas with the paint projects!
