I don't know how good they are in the city, but here in the hills in CA they are the worst. I was suppose to get package yesterday, yet once again I checked tracking and they said I was not there which is not true, I was there all day long. This has happen before where they say they tried and they have not even showed up..... no slip on the door, nothing........Eventhough I was there. Man I hate liars. I guess from now on I'll have to ask for the Brown truck.
I've had the same from both. I had to file a loss or something with them on one. Fedex said they didn't have it and i didn't have it. So I got my $14 back. And ups kept saying they were trying to deliver it but they never came. I finally had to go pick it up from them. Oh and when this happened i lived in the Suburbs.
Fedex sucks, I ordered a $200 strut for a customer and it never left their "ground" location because they claim the package was damaged. It has been 5 weeks and I cannot get them to send me the damaged part or money to help pay for getting the part from the dealer.
Don't get me started on Fed-Ex. I have too many horror stories on their mistakes. While UPS is not perfect, they have my business now. I used to do a fair amount of business at Kinko's but since Fed-Ex took them over I won't go there either.
Guess who handles the USPS parcel service......that's right, FedEx. They handle all the high priority items through a separate distribution facility but the post office makes the final home delivery. (We have a friend who is a FedEx pilot and he tells some interesting stories. Did you know you can FedEx a horse overseas? Apparently a lot of high dollar horses move around this way.)
gotta say I am not too impressed with ups right now, I shipped a set of heads to a guy in NY, the screw in studs, and guide plates where wrapped in a seperate bag, and put into the pachaging I also insured them for $500 per box when he got them one of the boxes was ripped completely opened half the packaging was missing, and the bag was ripped open and most of the studs, and half the guide plates were missing this adds upto $75 to replace this was 3 months ago, they keep telling the guy I sent them to they will only deal with the shipper, when i call they tell me they will only deal with the retail location I took them to, and when they call they tell them they have to have the recipeant fill the claim, and they still won't settle a $75 claim which is less than the normal insurance, and they were paid for extra to cover the entire cost of the heads. they are rapidly lossing my business you would think a multi billion dollar company would have better customer service than that
BTW they don't deny that the box was damaged, and even admit it but won't settle it.
As far as I can remember I have had nearly perfect service here with FedEx, UPS, and even the USPS as long as I don't use parcel post. Every once in a while a new guy or temp at FedEx messes up but all I have to do is make a phone call to clear it up and I get it the next day.
Damaged packages are usually caused by improper shipping materials/packaging.
I have never had a problem with fed-ex. UPS on the other hand, add 3 to 5 days to whatever they tell you... I'v lately been using DHL.... Call them, and witin 10 minutes they are right there knoockin on the door.

I would normally agree with you but the case I mentioned it was a heavy duty cardboard box with a second layer of cardboard inside. the box looked like it had been hit at an angle with a forklift (and at 56lbs they shouldn't have needed a fork lift) both layers of cardboard were torn, and crinkled up. plus everything inside was double wrapped with bubble wrap, and tapped up pretty well so something pointed had to hit the box, and gouge it.
I have worked for RPS, and packages getting jammed up on the conveyor system was the biggest reason for damage, as the packages come down a slope, and hit the jam, then fall on the floor, which is when the damge occurs. This happened fairly regular.
