Charging system

I noticed that it takes a few minutes after startup for my charging system to kick in. Is this normal? I have a friend with an 03 that says his does the same thing. This morning when I started it I turned the lights and wipers on and the wipers moved real slow. Then after I drove about a block the lights go poof and get brighter all of a sudden. It's like it takes a minute or two for the voltage regulator to kick in and start working.

The charging system is working normally as soon as the truck is started. It is just the cycling of the glow plugs after start up to reduce smoke that causes the low reading. They pull quite a bit of power. Its qite normal for the strokes to do this.

yep, thats just your glow plugs running, they draw a LOT of power, once they kick off the voltage comes back.... Normal.... you might want to wait till the voltage comes back up to turn the lights on and take off, this keeps the extra load off the electrical system, just my opinion though...
