Hi all,
new to the heavy duty world, coming from old 150's, rangers and exploder. Looking at an 01 250 cc sb lariat with 28k miles on it and have heard that the engines from that year may not be reliable or have problems popping plugs? The asking price is $24,900 I think closer to $22 would be more reasonable. I'm not in Tx but in the NW. Thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated on $ amt and putting worry to rest.
Thanks in advance
Im not sure about the 01's. I know at some point there was a head upgrade or so I have heard. I have a 99 that has blown two out. Passenger side 2nd back and driver side 3rd back. Helicoiled both without pulling the head! The plugs that have blown out have happened on 0 degree days with propper warmup and both happened within 2 mons of each other. Hope this isnt going to keep happening. If it happens again Im droppin in a caddy 500.
I think by '01 they had the blown spark plug problem fixed. I only have 32,000 miles on mine and have had no problems from the motor (tranny is a different story!!) Mine is an '01 2WD SC shortbed XLT that I bought used almost 3 years ago (with 15,000 miles) for $23,500. I was willing to pay that much to have the factory warranty. You're truck would be out of warratny by now. In my area (SE), $24,900 would be a little high for that truck, not sure what the price difference to the NW would be.
Thanks for replying, I purchased the truck and pick it up on Monday, got it for $22,250, and feel pretty good about that.
Anybody know anything about an after market warranty and if I should purchase, I'm a carpenter, not a mechanic.
Thanks again for the great web board, lots of good info in here!
