Sputters After 20 Mins

Last week I put some gas from a different station and the next day it started to sputter like it was missing after about 20 minutes of driving. I figured it may be bad gas, added Techron and gas line anti-freeze, but no improvement. I've burned through that gas and put my usual in. It still does the same thing. The odd thing is that it stops doing it for a few, then does it again. I've done a lot of thinking about what could be wrong....Coil Over Pack-Is that a symptom of a bad one or two?.....Fuel Filter-partially plugged??....Fuel Pump?? I've had it since July and has 137,000 miles and has been running flawlessly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Problems that happen sporacticlly[spellin?] are the hardest to diagnose. When it acts up if you can check the fuel pressure at the schrader valve, towards the rear of the pass side valve cover[looks like a valve stem].The fuel filter would be an easy part to have replaced,if it is not the filter at least you would have a new one on anyway.Coil packs are a good possibility also.Have a competent shop do a scan, could be a coil pack acting up.Good luck and keep us informed.

Hey I got the same thing wrong with my 2000 ford Excursion v-10 4x4.....It only has 43,700 miles on it and im the second owner. I have gotten it down to the fuel filter or some of the coil packs. I am going to mess with the fuel filter today....and check the spark with the coil packs also. Whatever I find out I will let you know for sure. I think in your case it was a coincidence that you went to another gas station. Also I know from past experiance that the coil will be perfectly fine when cold....but once spark runs through them for about 10-20 minutes then you can tell if they are bad. Also its diffiult for me to stomp on the gas or take it up some hills but it will idle great....but sputters when revvved high.

PS let me know if you find anything out also...but im starting cheap with a fuel filter....then putting a PVC valve in it also. These are both cheap that need to be replaced anyways.

Here's an update. It fixed itself. I burned though about another 15 gallons of gas and it seems better. No sputtering. So hopefully it stays that way. I will do a complete tune up this spring. Thanks for your replys.
