Have any of you guys done a home installation of a 2-5 or 3-5 lowering kit yet? If so, did you need to compress front coils to drop the strut and did you need to remove front left-side leaf spring bolt? I'm trying to decide which kit & what components to use. Thinking about using DJM control arms with a 2 1/2" drop and a Belltech flip kit with a 5" drop-any comments or recommendations would be appreciated. Also if any of you have done a drop, how is the ride?
Ok, why mess with the stock control arm, that is just dumb. We already have a aluminum casted control arm, and you are going to buy some cheezy djm one. I guess if you want cheaper then go for it. And belltech sucks.
asinatra, I'm going by what I've been able to gather through limited research from companies who sell kits from several different manufacturers. I've been told control arms are the way to go because they don't alter suspension travel and allow for factory aligment specs. I've used dropped spindles on several trucks with very good results, but since this is not an option for the new Fords I'm looking for options from people who may have experience with them. Which leads me to this question, having gathered from other posts that you are using a Ground Force 2-5 kit, how do you like it? Any problems with alignment-tire wear-or bump stop issues? As for Belltech, they seem to be one of the few who incorporates a pinion angle adjustment into their flip kit.
I installed the DJM 2.5-5 kit about six months ago myself.....Not impressed.Took me 10 hours. You also have to remove the cat-back system which they dont tell you.The lower arms hit the cross member but it goes away after a few good dips (or until it bends enough on its own) I contacted DJM and they just blew me off.If anyone wants pics of this problem just let me know. Also my 24's rub now but not too bad.I just deal with it.......You dont need a spring compresser on this kit but the flip kit will require a buddie who is willing to climb under you truck on jack stands and wrestle the rear end around....I also got a lovely rear end hummm which was thrown in with the kit for free. What a deal!
J-Unit, thanks for the information. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only person on this board that wants to lower their truck! I had spoke to someone a few weeks ago at DJM, and wasn't very impressed with his knowledge of their product. I'm curious as to why you needed to lower your exhaust, this is the first I've heard from anyone that this is necessary. From what I've gathered the DJM flip kit is infinity adjustable for pinion angle, could the noise from your rear be caused from an angle problem? Thanks again for sharing your experience as this greatly influences my choice of which kit to use. Seems I'm now leaning towards a Ground Force kit. How bout it guys-I know some of you have installed this kit-how's it workin?
You just need to remove the exhaust when installing the flip kit. There is a leaf spring bolt that has to come out and the only way to get it out is to remove the cat-back.I had the lowering shackles on before and got the good ol vibration but now I have the hummm.I just need to find someone who knows what they're doing to get rid of it.Kinda hard to get anything done right in Vegas so thats why I do it myself. If you want pics you can email me at Sincitysandrails@***.net ..
