What kind of oil comes in our trucks from the factory? Conventional or synthetic blend? I think the manual recommends the synthetic blend.
I had it changed the first time @5000 miles w/conventional oil. Then again today @8000 miles with the blended oil. Even though I told them to use the regular oil. But I dont think that it will hurt it by using the synthetic oil, will it?
ford diesel engines filled with 10w30 , all gas engines 5w20 syn blend except mazda engines 5w30 , all rear diff's 75w140 synthetic , all frt diffs 80w90 , all SOF t cases sythetic atf , all manual t cases dexron 3 and read owners manual for trans oil full synthetic not reccommended in diesels may cause running issue's but what ever you wish to use should be fine as long as reccomended maintenace schedule followed ( ford loves people who maintain their units )
Just a note about this 5-20 w oil that ford requires. The only reason they require it is that it is so thin that the engines get better gas mileage. The improvement is so minimal, ford is looking for any improvement they can get for statistics.
Personally I quit using it. I use 5-30 w synthetic. I use the Super Tech (full synthetic)from Wal Mart. This is some quality oil from penzoil/quakerstate and a bargain price too at around $3.00 a quart. I think it has even increased my gas mileage more than when I was using the 5-20w regular oil.
Incidently I read something that ford cant void your warranty for using other grades simply because of their need to increase mileage for stats. Here is the link http://www.boss302.com/oil.htm
i just use castrol conven. 10w30 bought at wal-mart for $1800 a case.never had a problem and none of my trucks have had a problem w/using oil either, dont know if it the weight or brand but if it aint broke dont fix it right?

Just wondering if you were the engineer that developed this new 5.4L?
IMO, use what the manufacture recommends in the owners manual. These engines are built to much closer tolerances and that is why Ford says to use 5-20w. I believe you will void the warranty if you use others, but ask yourself is it worth the risk? I would hate for something to go wrong and Ford not cover it under warranty due to your negligence. Motorcraft is a quality oil and you surely won't have a warranty issue if something goes wrong. Just my opinion.
MSU, your Triton engine came factory fill with 5w-20 synthetic blend oil. Depending on the year model, your engine requires either 153-H or 930-A oil. No regular oil will meet this spec, it will be a synthetic blend or a synthetic.FWIW, the blends turn in the lowest wear metals. I would not recommend Mobil One in this viscosity as the HT/HS rating only meets minimum requirements of 2.6. All others will exceed the requirements with Redline at the top at 3.3. Engineers agree that for normal wear, a HT/HS rating of 2.8 is required. I would suggest looking for oils that meet Fords requirements. Don't believe the bull about Ford not being able to deny a warranty claim because you didn't use the required lube. It's like using 108 octane aviation unlead gasoline and then wanting Ford to fix the burned up pistons. It ain't happenin' and Ford is not so stupid that they won't have the oil analized should you suffer an oil related problem. Use the required oil.
I agree with flash i work ata a dealer and we have done oil analysis on numerous engines questioning maintenance and oil types used and ford has denied lots of warranty claims due to it USE THE REQUIRED OIL MEETING FORD SPECS ON THAT ENGINE YEAR
I use 0W-30 (Mobil Synthetic) in my F-150 2004. I didn't find anything else in Switzerland/Germany.
The oils usually in Europa are 5W-40 or similar (high rpm engines plus high speeds).
hey Wolfdog, are the power ratings for the 04 F-150 different in Switzerland then are in the U.S.A? I don't know if they bump the power up over there or not. U.S version is 300 HP. Let us know.

No they are not. Ford doesn't import F-150 officially to Europe/Switzerland. I had to ask my local Ford dealer to import it.
Great truck!
wolfdog How much did your F-150 Cost$$ im thinking about $70.000 and you pay how much for gallon of gas about 4.00 litter
F-150 2004 Lariat Screw (incl. Lear Cap plus some other options) delivered to Switzerland -- 0.5 miles from my home (to be exact). All about 48kUSD! with a 1.3 CHF/USD exchange rate.
Just filled the tank -- 1.36 CHF/Litre equals about 3.96USD/Gallon.
I know..expensive to say the least. But you only live once...then I'd rather drive my F-150 Lariat.
