FE tranny question

Ok so heres my question, especially to you guys who have Galaxies. My 65 has the factory cruise-o-matic in it. I have a C6 that came off a FE and wondered if it would be better to have than the cruise-o-matic. Also which one eats more power?

By far the C6 is a much stouter tranny than the cruiser...thats why the used it in the trucks instead of the cruiser and dropped the cruise O Matic all together..

The C6 will have more drag on the engine..But it wont slip as much under a heavy load and torque as the cruiser!! Depending on what your planning on doing with your car? you could have The C6 rollerized and instead of pulling 22 to 25% of your Hp down on the motor..It drops to about 18 to 20%... Good Luck!!

well im just wondering, b/c this thing shifts so slow and is sluggish. Ofcourse i have a 3.00:1 rear, that i will probably upgrade to a 3.50. I just think it could be better is all. Only thing i like about my current rear is the ability to wind it out higher in L2.

Sorry to butt in with a couple ?s. My 66 truck has a cruise-o-matic and I have a C-6 from a 74 360 on the back portch. Will I kill what little power my 352 has by hooking up the C-6? Cruiser needs seals at least, leaks like a sieve. What's involved in rollerizing the C-6? $$$ and skill wise. Thanks JR.

Replace the vacuum modualtor on the Cursomatic for crisper shifts. Low engine vacuum will also cause a sluggish shift. I would not change it for a C6 if I owned the Galaxie. The C6 is an excellent transmission for pickups, especially behind an FE. IMHO!

Well JA thats a good Question !! I have a buddy of mine that owns a tranny shop and all he chraged me for were the parts.. He took a roller Hub (new) that generally goes in a AOD tranny and put it in my C6..so I didnt have to pay for that.. He had it in stock..

the kits I have seen run about $150 to $225 depending on who's box they come in... And I had the red clutch's put in instead of 4, he put in 6, and he added a Kevlar Band, And a Trans-Go Valve Body and shift Kit.And Put in a either an H or an R 2nd gear Servo.. And a Big Truck Tranny Pan!!

And for a street runner you'll probably never notice the differance of power!

Good Luck

Russ

I myself dont go into Tranny's any farther than changing a Valve body or a shift kit...But I do know alotof guys buying a break down book for there Tranny's and do it them self's...

But If you havemore knowlege about auto's than I do and have the right tools go for it!!

I have a 64 Galaixe with a 428, over the years the car broke 20 of the Cruise-o-matics, put in a c-6 from a 78 F-100. It ran about 2 years, not bad for a $50 tranny, then had it rebuilded in 1999, it is working great. Myself I would not go back to a cruser. Allen
