Ok i was on my way to school this morning and i get off the interstate and i look at the oil pressure
It had dropped off the guage.
But it was not clacking like the lifters didn't have pressure so i decided to drive it the rest of the way to school
It was raining hard so i didn't want to get wet.
I hit a bump and it jumped back up
On the way home it did the same thing but about a mile from home no noises so i kept driving it.
Pulled in the driveway and i shut it off
I got out and messed with the wire that was on the sender and the nipple that the sender was connected to was wiggly so i messed with it and i started the truck and it had good oil pressure.
I have a good mechanical guage i want to put in there what size tee do i need?
If you really loose pressure wouldn't the lifters start clacking?
it sounds like you need to fix the connection on the oil pressure sending unit. it doesn't matter what gauge is in the truck, as long as that unit doesn't have a good connection ur gonna keep having problems. also i would say at interstate speeds a dry engine would make at the very least strong ticking noises.
oh and thats the pressure i have with it being time to change my oil.
When i change my oil and have a new filter on it the pressure should go up abit right?
Those pressures sound good to me. I have a 81 w/ a 300 and the stock sending unit wires were loose and read funny readings. Put a mechanical guage in and reads 50 lbs cold idle. 15 hot idle and 50 lbs hot cruising down the road. your engine is fine, if you had no oil pressure you would be hearing more the a lifter tapping you would be hearing tires squeeling from a locked up motor. The spot the electric sending unit screws into is 1/8 regular pipe tread I believe
i have a new development the truck now sounds like an old cornbinder Mediumduty Gas powered truck. my shiney muffler has a hole in it about 3" and i might leave it that way cause it sounds good. Real Deep like a big gas MD
