Not sure what clemetzer runs but i use the stanadyne performance formula in every tank. Heard lots of goode things about it. Besides i can't get deisel kleen here in Canada!!
I'm absolutely **** about tracking fuel mileage, and have been for the three years I've had my truck. I've noticed a definite pattern in my mpg during the winter months. There's a steady decline from December to March, then it starts to climb again. Winter fuel plays a big part in that, but a little more idling, a few more short trips, fewer long trips, and it all adds up.
I've also done a cost analysis on Stanadyne, to see what it does to my mpg, and what it's costing me to use it. Adding Stanadyne effectively increases the cost per gallon of fuel by $.06. It also increases my mpg by 1.5mpg. At the cost of fuel two years ago, when I did the analysis, the increase in mpg more than paid for the increase in fuel cost. So, even when fuel was $1.25/gallon, I was money ahead to use Stanadyne, and the improvement in how the truck ran was a bonus. Now that fuel is $1.85/gallon, the savings are even greater.
I never go to sleep at night without kissing my wife and telling her that I love her.
I never let anyone else drive my truck.
And I never fuel up without adding Stanadyne.
Simple rules, really. But it's working for me.
Well said Quadzilla. That should be on a bumper sticker a billboard or something. I knew the additive was improving things but hadn't nailed down how much. What is it about Standyne that make it superior to others?
I use Stanadyne too. I was a little surprised though, when I was back in PA. over Christmas my first night back it dropped down to -10*. When I went to fill up at the station in the morning the whole bottom half of the bottle was gelled when I pulled it out from behind the seat. I still use the stuff regularly but that cought me a little off guard because the label says that it's an all season conditioner.
That's not good for me to hear. It's -20 where I'm at right now. I keep my power service in the bed of the truck and have never found it gelled. Was it fresh?
It says on the back of the bottle to store in temps above -17.8*c. I have seen my stanadyne gel only once in the bottle. Shook it and it thinned back out. I live in canadan and have seen -35*c a few times this winter. Never had a lick of trouble with my fuel gelling!! I think it mat be the claening agents in the stanadyne that gels in cold weather. So i wouldn't worry about. To me its an excellent product and i think its the only addative approved by Ford!!
All states have winter fuel now. Will have till at least late march.
Not all. In California, only get summer fuel - diesel no. 2. Don't know about other states, but I would be surprised if low elevation areas of Arizona got winter fuel. Let's face it, Pheonix never gets very cold!! No danger of gelling at 40 degrees...
