I have an 87 aerostar, 3.0, with dual A/C system. I converted the system over to 134 6 yrs ago and the performance was adaquate. I replaced the dryer/accumalator, low press switch and purged the system. Recently a line seal let lose and I lost the charge. After replacing the o rings in the system and evacuating it I can not get the system to accept more than 4 oz of 134. Low press is within operating parameters but I'm not sure what the high side is, compressor does cycle when defrost cycle is selected. Is the compressor failing? and if so is the model an FS-6. Thanks for any assistance.
Are you trying to charge the unit with or without the compressor running?
Did you flush the system of all the old oil to begin with?
How long was it up and running before the line seal let go and which seal?
I'm charging the system with the unit running @ 2000 rpm, the sys was flushed prior to the conversion and replaced with esther oil, and replenshed after the recent evacuation, the system was running some 5.5 yrs and it was the seal going to the rear condenser.
Does the system cool OK?
Did you actually weigh the refrigerant into the system? 4 oz. isn't enough to charge the accumulator itself much less the whole system.
You may want to check the schrader valve at the charge port to make sure it is clear.
