Did tires and gears so the speedometer was off. Bought the Superchip Micro tuner as it was advertised to correct the speedometer. Tried several times and I couldn't get it to work. Went to the Superchip plant on Tuesday as I had set an appointment. Arrived at 10a and met with Dave. They put it on a dyno and agreed that the speedometer was about 10%off. He tried to reprogram it but no go. Several engineers later and 4pm arriving I was told that it couldn't be done.
I was a little more than surprised and asked them if I was the only 2004 F250 with bigger tires and a Superchip. He said that the problem has never come up. I expressed my doubt as to how much real research was really done and told them that in the beginning I offered my vehicle as a R and D vehicle. (R and D = research and design) He said that I could get a refund if I could find the sales slip... Wasn't easy but I did get a credit card bill faxed to them.
So my Micro tuner is sitting in Sanford Fl and I await a check.
I will say though that they did try and with being able to get my money back that is really a stand up company. We need to see more companies stand behind their products like this.
But - my speed ometer still needs to be corrected - any ideas???
When I ordered mine, I was told over the phone, and emailed a factory spec sheet that distinctive listed my 99 F250 as a truck that they COULD NOT reprogram the speedometer or adjust for different gears. I don't know who you talked to, but they apparently didn't read their own website. LOL
As for adjusting, take it to the dealer and have them reflash the computer. As long as your running 35"s or smaller it will work. Not sure on the gears though? anyone else?
all that work doug and all you hade to do was ask... anyone could of told you the Superchips Microtuner will not recallibrate the speedo's on our trucks, its a feature it claims, but it does not work on the SD, i think that is under the Fact section where this site sells Tuners.. only reason Many of us know this is just from the experiances many have posted on this forum...... ive done allot of reaserch on the tuners and dont think there worth the dough..
Will any of these tuners control the annoying 4 to 3 downshift on the 4R100 transmission? My biggest problem is traveling to work, cruise at 50 mph, and going over several small hills in a row. Computer does not know what to do and it drives me nuts. Thanks. Philip.
Just to step in and answer one question, the gears don't change the speedo because the speed is taken from the differential and measures axle rotation - the only thing that changes the speedo is the tires.
I never let the truck go into od unless i'm going 55mph+ and that is only if i'm going to stay above speed, it kills the tranny to shift in\out all the time.
EDITED: Just realized you had a gas engine. Yes the SCMT 1714 for 04 F250 Gas Engines are supposed to be able to adjust for tire size...as per website
Exactly - it was advertised that it WOULD correct my speedometer and didn't. My gears are 4.88's with 37's for tires. The microtuner allowed for the entry of that data but wouldn't correct the speedometer.
I am going to call them today and see if the check is in the mail???
Does anyone have experience with the Hypertech tuner. It is supposed to change the speedo fro different tires. I have a 2004 PSD. Not trying to cause an argument, just wanted to know before I put 35" tires and a lift kit with tuner.
Pizzapat- I have a hypertech 41039 for my 99 psd. It let me adjust for tire size but not gears. I run 315's that measure about 33". If I remember correctly, it would let me adjust to 32.8". I did that and checked speed with a GPS and road side radars and I am just about dead on.
Like Krewat said, you don't need to adjust the speedometer for the gear change, only tires. Maybe try entering just the tire info and see if it works?
The Superlift True Speed thingy wires into the wire comming off the rear axle speed sensor. It *should* be able to adjust for tire size on any truck with the speed sensor. Might want to call them to be sure.
JET also makes a similar device as the Superlift one.
