I would imagine a Dana 60 rear end in that. Someone mentioned that they occasionally came with Sterling axles but I don't think it was common.

In 84 it should be a Dana 60. But with the trucks age and depending on how many owners, and the type of owners, you can never be too sure. The door sticker code will at least tell you what it has from the factory.

Weird, decoder says its a Ford axle with 3.55 gears open diff. rated at 3750 pounds. I don't know if its right, but thats what the decoder says. Well having it say its a Ford axle then that means it should be a visteon or "Sterling". Then best way to tell is with a visual ID. Even though similiar in ways, you can tell the difference between a Visteon and Dana axle. The Dana should also have a 60 cast into the webbing near the diff, on the front side of the axle.

the front axle tag said 3.54 gearing, so i'm assuming that the rear would be close to that for it to work properly....i know that the front spins just a touch faster than the rear, to help with traction....anyway...thanks...
