Building Adjustable Idle Controller

I have read about the AIC building process but have a few questions regarding its operation. Does the parking break have to be set or is the transmission being in park suitable for wiring in the AIC. My understanding is that you activate the AIC by turning on the switch and increase the potentiometer to the desired RPM. My question is once you have it set were you want can you simply use the switch you wired in for activating the AIC or do you have to turn the switch on, adjust the potentiometer every time to use it? My thinking is once it is set a desired RPM you could simply use the switch to activate and de-activate the AIC. Thanks for the help this board has given me.

I built one and it works great! To operate mine the parking brake must set. I don't mess with potentiometer much, just flip the switch. I suppose you could just use a resistor instead of the pot and just have an on off switch. But what size resistor to equal a set RPM I don't know. Just have to experiment with different ones. Good luck!
